Dear,
And what exactly is the truth? When everything is but pieces taken out of context?
Dear, explores our inherent inability to perceive the truth. Inspired by the framing of Taiwanese postal stamps, where the dashline borders invasively "select" and "frame" subjects and scenes as they please, the laser-cut dashlines that cut the watercolor self-portrait into segments within segments, representing perceptions from others and how no view is ever full picture (which begs the question, is itself self-portrait even a full picture?). The cut-off frames are then used as postcard stamps that "justify" the contents of the postcard, similar to how others' discernment of your character is based on the minuscule fraction from an entire gallery, no - museum - that they know of you.
